HD and HD/DVR converters can be used and are necessary to view HD channels

"Our move to an all-digital networkenables some exciting changes, such as us expanding our basiclineup, adding 45 digital music channels, providing 100 percentdigital clarity and a state-of-the-art interactive program guidewith parental controls and more."

In addition, RCN is increasing its Video ON DEMAND content,including hundreds of hours for free, as well as more subscriptionand pay Video ON DEMAND programming to provide customers with evenmore choices available at the touch of a remote. Customers can alsolook forward to more flexible channel packages, so they cancustomize a package that's right for them.

Once converted to all digital, RCN's D.C. area customers will needat least a standard digital converter box or cable card to view thenew line-ups. HD and HD/DVR converters can also be used and arenecessary to view HD channels. The conversion will begin inGaithersburg, Falls Church and Bethesda and will continue over thenext 4 months. All RCN subscribers will be notified before theirservice area is converted.

"While RCN's exciting new services will require subscribers tohave a digital converter box or cable card, our all-digital networkopens up a digital revolution that brings an exciting world ofopportunities and choice for our customers," Channell noted.

He said a concerted effort is underway to get the word out to RCNcustomers to make this transition smooth and easy for them. Heexplained that customers needing a standard, HD or DVR box or cablecard have three options:

-- RCN will mail them with quick self-install instructions. It's aseasy as connecting one cable to the box and another to the wall.

-- Customers can pick boxes or cable cards up at the RCN Showcase,1304 F Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20004.

-- Customers can schedule an appointment to have boxes installed.
